Fes & Meknes Accommodation La Maison Bleue Sustainability

Si Mohammed El Abbadi

Riad Maison Bleue occupies a 19th century house previously belonging to Moulay Bel Arbi El Alaoui, an eminent judge and professor of theology.

The famous Moroccan philosopher, Aziz Lahbabi was also born and raised in this house.

Today Riad Maison Bleue, the second guest house restored and run by the El Abbadi family, consists of four interconnecting courtyards where guests feel as though they are negotiating the laneways of the ancient Médina of Fez.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

La Maison Bleue contributes to the improvement of social services in the rural area.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

La Maison Bleue contributes to the improvement of social services in the rural area. It does this by donating a percentage of its annual income to Mohamed V foundation. The mission of this organization is to supply of drinking water and to raise literacy levels and access to health care in the rural areas of Morocco.

La Maison Bleue also support organizations that look after people who have been badly affected by poverty, most notably abandoned children, orphans and the elderly. This is done by improving their living conditions.

To limit negative impacts on the local environment, La Maison Bleue has been fitted with water saving shower heads and tap. There are also low-wattage light bulbs in use. Though these measures are in place to limit wastage, they do so without compromising on the level of guest comfort.

If guests would like to get involved, they can request that the hotel washes their linen and towels every second day instead of daily. They also can help by switching lights and the air conditioning off when they are not in use.
