Morocco Jewish Heritage Tour
Morocco has had a long Jewish history, dating back to thousands of years. The complex, intertwining relationship between the Jewish and Arabic populations is fascinating and unique.
With the opening of Israel, many Moroccan Jews moved east, but the country is now experiencing a resurgence of interest in the country's Jewish heritage. So, they have created this exciting new tour specifically for those wanting to explore the country's Jewish sites and culture.
Day 1 - Meknes - Volubilis - Fes
After your arrival at the Casablanca, Rabat or Fes airport, you will be greeted by your escort to start your Moroccan journey.
Travel through lush rolling hills studded with the fertile plains of ancient olive groves and vineyards which await you in the Ismalian capital of Meknes. Meknes is on Unesco's world heritage list. After a pleasant lunch at the holy city of Moulay Idriss, you will explore the port of Bab El Mansour and Bab El Khamis.
Then explore the ancient Roman ruins of Volubulis, sprawled amid a wildflower-dotted hillside, where the remains of palaces, baths, soaring arches and magnificent mosaics await exploration.

Day 2 - Fes
Fes, noted as one of the best preserved medieval cities in the world, has a vibrant Jewish heritage. For thousands of years, the Mellah has served as a place where Jewish artisans crafted fine goods and jewelry. The recently restored Ibn Danan synagogue is the oldest one in Fes, and a part of a UNESCO project to preserve the workings of medieval Fes.

Day 3 - Casablanca
The day begins in the sparkling White City of Casablanca and a visit to the newly opened Jewish Museum in Casablanca (Not open on weekend), the first Jewish Museum in an Arab country. You'll tour the places where most of Morocco's Jewish community resides, and explore the cultural center and the Bet El synagogue.
You may wish to have lunch at one of the small kosher restaurants in this part town.

Day 4 - Marrakech
You continue traveling through the picturesque countryside to Pink City of Marrakech.
Marrakech is long known for its serpentine souks, snake charmers and pink buildings and palaces such as the ancient Bahia from the days of the harem. There is also a historic and longstanding Jewish mellah, known for making some of the best jewelry in Morocco. Explore the ancient royal Saadian Tombs and the majestic Koutoubia Mosque. You'll also visit an ancient synagogue and the 2000 year old walled medina.

Day 5 - Marrakech
You will visit the glorious Majorelle Gardens that are owned by international designer Yves St. Laurent. Stroll along the ancient Menara pool, and then tour the nearly 2000 year old ancient city wall and Palmerie.
In the afternoon, take time to explore the hidden treasures of Marrakech, and at the end of the day, be seduced by the world-famous Djemaa el-Fna open air market, where you'll find exotic snake charmers, Berber musicians, spinning acrobats and fortune tellers. The air is filled with curls of smoke rising from delectable kebobs grilled over coals.
Enjoy dinner in Djemma el-Fna, or at one of many restaurants in the area.
Evening accommodations are at your riad at the ancient city of Marrakech.
Day 6 - Ourika Valley / High Atlas Mountains
Discover the hidden Berber villages of the valley or hike through the wildflower-dotted hillside to one of the waterfalls of the High Atlas. And then it's on to the lovely garden of the valley near the souk Lathinie.
Dinner and overnight stay are at your luxury Berber Kasbah Omar at the village of Anrar.
A traditional Moroccan Hammam (steam bath) and massage are available at the Kasbah Omar for extra cost. (Please let them know in advance if you would like to make an appointment.)
Day 7 - Essaouira
Essoaouira sparkles in white against the brilliant turquoise sea in the former 18th century Portugese settlement and current fishing village. Cannons sit on ramparts pointed toward the sea to stop marauding pirates of the past. Camels stand at the ready for passengers to ride across the sands. Artisan shops, boutiques and art galleries fill the squares and the aroma of restaurants fills the air. Stop in a café for a French pastry and mint tea.
Long a draw for music legends including Jimmy Hendrix and the Rolling Stones, Essaouira continues to lure artists and musicians alike today. Essaouira also has a vibrant Jewish history, and today is still home to many Moroccan Jews.

Day 8 - Essaouira - Casablanca
The first half of the day to be spent exploring Essaouira. After lunch, you will take an afternoon drive to the sparkling white city of Casablanca.

Day 9 - Transfer to Casablanca Airport for your home return.
